Dear Parents or Guardians,
Throughout the school year, our staff will announce opportunities for students to enter competitions and contests. Please check our school website and our school bulletin board (Opportunities Abound at University Park). Contests and competitions are a great way to challenge and to inspire all students to develop a passion for learning. Students are encouraged to develop innovative techniques to solve problems and to cultivate their ideas and skills. Competitions play a vital role in motivating students to excel academically and offer a chance for them to showcase their talents, analyze and evaluate outcomes, and to discover personal aptitude. Participation in contests or competitions outside the school environment is optional, but highly encouraged. These are some contests/competitions that your child might be interested in.
Write-a-Book
Write-a-book is an activity that allows students to combine the elements of plot, characters and action to develop original stories. The activity is an integral part of the total curriculum and highlights students' ability to express personal ideas through informative and persuasive writing. Write-a-book is supported by the MSA (Maryland School Assessment). The Library/Media Center Office sponsors the Write-a-book competition each year. PGCPS Write-a-Book Literary Program
