Assignments and Grading Policy
Grading Policy:
Participation (50%): learning concepts, developing perceptual skills, and developing manual and technical skills. This includes studio projects, tests, research projects and/or cooperative group work.
1.1 Studio projects: graded on following directions, finishing assignments in a timely manner, neatness, control over materials, effort, concentration and willingness to experiment
1.2 Attendance, timely arrival, work habits, discussions and seminars, group interaction, self-discipline, care of materials and facilities, maintaining an atmosphere suitable for concentration and learning.
1.3 Research projects: graded on persistence in research, concentration, effort, and final
Test/Quizzes (30%): graded on percentage of correct answers for multiple choice, true/false and short answer and/or fill-in-the-blank as well as using supporting material for essay response questions, depth of thinking on essay questions, and performance
Notebook and Sketchbook (20%):
Notebook checks take place at the beginning and end of each quarter. Each student is expected to keep notebooks in good condition and organized all year. All drawings, sketches, research must be kept in the sketchbook. Notebooks and sketchbooks must be in class every class period.
3.1 Notebooks: storage of printed information, class notes and vocabulary, returned tests and homework assignments
3.2 Sketchbook: notes on and sketches of slides and related art history, preliminary sketches for studio projects, research project notes, record of assignments and projects.
Your commitment as a student to learning is evidenced by your enrollment. Instances of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. Cheating on exams or plagiarism (presenting the work of another as your own, or the use of another person’s ideas without giving proper credit) will result in a failing grade. For this class, all assignments are to be completed by the individual student unless otherwise specified.
