Panel Building Standards
1. Enclosures will be Hoffman. Wiegmann may be substituted when Hoffman is not available and with Prior approval.
2. internal Wiring will be High Stranded Machine Tool Wire UL1015.
Machine Tool Wire, or most commonly referred to as MTW, is a stranded flexible hook up wire. MTW is used for the internal wiring of appliances including refrigeration equipment, automatic washers, air-conditioning equipment, control wiring for machine tools and in various other building applications.
This high stranding of bare copper gives the wire its superior flexibility compared to that of THHN building wire. UL gives MTW/TEW different style numbers from UL1007, UL1015, UL1032, UL1063 and others depending on voltage rating to temperature range.
Wire Colors and Sizes are as Follows:
White - 120V Nuetral Black - 120V Hot Green - Ground Blue - PLC Inputs
Red - Outputs Brown - 24V(+) Yellow - 24V(-) Purple - Estop Hot
Pink - Estop Return Red/Wht - 24V Outputs Blue/Wht - 24V Inputs
16 Ga wire will be used for all 120V and 24V wiring when protected by a 20A or smaller Circuit Breaker.
480V Motor Wire will be sized according to the application. THHN may be used for 480V wiring.
3. Wire Ducting Will be Panduit. Most applications will use Panduct® Type F - Narrow Slot Wiring Duct (White). 4 inch High being the most common. When space saving is the major factorPanduct® PanelMax™ DIN Rail Wiring Duct may be used. Panduit will be cut straight for a clean factory cut. Proper Tools will be used for a consistant cut; such as the PANDUIT® Panduct® Bench Mount Wiring Duct Cutting Tool.
4. Din Rail will be Zinc/Steel DIN Rail. Aluminum DIN Rail should only be used on small project evolving pieces less than 12". Din Rail will be cut straight and filed for a clean factory cut. Pieces longer than 1 meter should be 2 meter long pieces cut to length. If 2 meter pieces still too short butted ends will be covered by components whenever possible.
5. Wire Labeling will be used on all wire longer than 6". Wire labeling can be heat shrink type or wrap type but must be consistant. Wire Labeling will be visable and readable withwire duct. When Heat Shrink Lables are used it will be White Heat-Shrink Polyolefin.
6. Terminal Blocks will be Allen Bradley 1492-J4 Screw Type for most wiring applications upto 30 Amps. Center push type jumpers 1492-CJLJ6 will be used to bus terminal block together. One wire per terminal will be followed at all times. Multi Layer or speciality Terminal Blocks will be used when specified or with prior approval. Color Standards will be followed.
White - 120V Neutral Black - 120V Hot Green/Yel - Ground Blue - PLC Inputs
Red - PLC Outputs (if Fused TB are not used). Brown - 24V(+) Yellow - 24V(-)
Violet - Estop Purple
7. Panel Review will be done in 2 steps. step 1, digital pictures will be sent of panel layout for approval to continue. Panel layouts will have panduit and major compoents layed out. it will include size and location of terminal block. Step 2, onsite panel checkout will be preformed by myself and/or the project Engineer. A Panel Sign off form will be signed and any corrections will be noted. this will initiate a billing cycle for payment up to but not more than 75% the total.
