ELP Standards
The Oregon English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards "move the focus from 'What language does a student have?' to 'What is a student able to do with language within subject areas?'"
In the past, language development has been seen as the sole responsibility of ESL/ELD specialists. With rigorous Common Core standards that rely more heavily on language proficiency in core subject areas, content area teachers and ESL/ELD teachers must work closely together to develop English proficiency to best support English language learners with content acquisition.
Familiarity with the ELP Standards is a great place to begin!
