Introduction

Developing academic language is important for success in school and in most careers. Today's more rigorous standards place a greater emphasis on the increased demands for language within content areas.  "Language is no longer seen as separated from content ... rather, language and content are viewed as integral to one another" (Text Project, Oct. 2013).  Academic language growth comes about through on-going, focused efforts by teachers of all grades and subject areas.

This resource has been developed to assist teachers to provide academic language instruction through online professional development modules (available for PDUs) and reference materials.
