Objective: Physical Education and Health is a graduation requirement for Pender County Schools. In this class we will cover lifetime sports and health curriculum provided by the state of North Carolina.
Materials: 70 page notebook. Lace-up shoes. PCS-issued Chromebook and Charger (Bring this fully charged every day.)
Sports (1st Quarter): Basketball, Football, Volleyball and Soccer
Physical Activity (2nd Quarter): Fitnessgram testing, walk to jog, bodyweight circuits
Health Units:
Mental and Emotional Health
Personal and Consumer Health
Interpersonal Communication and Relationships
Nutrition and Physical Activity
Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drugs
Class Expectations:
Dressing out is NOT required for a grade. But it is advised. Monday, Wednesday, and some Fridays are PE days. Dressing out entails some kind of tennis shoes, workout shorts or pants, a T-shirt, and a sports bra for girls. A parent note will only excuse you for one week of PE. Parent notes need to have a contact number. I will need a doctor’s note to excuse you for any time over a week.
You are expected to be on time no matter where you come from. “On time” means in my classroom, not the gym or the sidewalk.
Weekly Schedule:
Monday and Wednesday are PE days. Tuesday and Thursday are Health days, and we will be taking notes. Fridays are make-up days. If you miss work, you must make it up the following Friday.
Grading:
You will receive the following grades in PE and Health: Daily Grade, Test, and Classwork.
Daily Health grades are given for completing the guide notes and open-response questions for that day's lessons. Daily PE grade: 10 points for daily activities (just try!). Tests can be written responses or projects. Late work needs to be turned in by Friday of the following week. Zeros will be given out if the work is not completed.
Reproductive Health and Safety:
Pender County is a passive permission county. This means that you will take Reproductive Health and Safety unless you bring a parent note with a phone number of that parent exempting you from this material. If you are excused from this unit, you will complete another unit in the health book for your daily grade. I will wait 60 days from the start of the new semester to begin this unit. Parents may look at and review the material at any time. The office has a binder with all the material covered in this unit.
