Opportunities

Diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice

As a department, Environmental Science and Management is engaged in diversifying its curriculum and opportunities to increase the representation of multiple perspectives, backgrounds, and ways of knowing.

The Morse Lab is committed to expanding diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in academia and STEM fields in particular. We are actively working on developing practices to change the status quo in science with respect to discrimination against marginalized groups.

As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I am excited to participate in events like #EcologyPride and groups like 500WomenScientists.org and 500QueerScientists.com.

Student interns and volunteers

Internship (academic credit available as ESM 401 or 404):

Assist with wetland monitoring and lab work as part of a new study. This work will be undertaken as part of a team, even in wet or cold conditions, so having a good attitude while working outside is a major requirement!

Volunteer: (days and hours flexible)

Assist with lab activities, such as preparing supplies for field trips, sample analysis (with training), cleaning glassware, and other general lab duties. While interest is encouraged from students who have previously worked in lab settings or who have been successful in lab courses, any motivated student with great attention to detail and a passion for science, particularly in ESM, chemistry, or biology, will be considered!

Please send your resume/CV, your weekly schedule/availability, and a brief statement of interest to Dr. Jen Morse by email (jlmorse at pdx.edu) if you are interested and available. Positions will remain open until filled.

Student research opportunities

Are you a motivated undergraduate at PSU or a prospective graduate student with an interest in pursuing research in environmental biogeochemistry or ecosystem ecology, particularly in urban or wetland settings? Contact Jen Morse (jlmorse at pdx.edu) to discuss opportunities in the lab.

Applications for fall admission to PSU graduate programs are due in January of each year. For more information, please see: http://www.pdx.edu/environmental-science/prospective-grad-students
