Academics

The scholarships highlighted in RED, use the PBL Common Application which can be found in the attachment section below.  Those in BLUE have a link attached to them.  Lastly, if in GREEN, they have their own application and can be found in the attachment section below.  Upon selecting on link, you'll find more details.  Unless specified, each scholarship award is distributed as a one time disbursement. 

Evelyn Wylie Burton: Financial need, character, academics, activities.  Award: $5,000 per year for four years.  Further details regarding this scholarship can be read by selecting the Burton link in the attachment section.  Applicant must submit an essay, please see last page of the PBL Common Application.  Due:  May 2, 2018 into the guidance office.

Buckley Legion and Auxiliary: Buckley area student.  Call Dorothy Goetting for information at 217-394-2242.  Award: $500. Check with Dorothy for due date: March 9, 2018

Eastern Star:  Criteria:  Academic Achievement, character, citizenship, dedication, integrity, service to school and community.  Award $1,000.  This scholarship has its own application, please select on attachment below.  Needs to be postmarked by March 2, 2018

Farmers Merchant National Bank:  Academics, activities, essay.  Award: $2,000 for four years. Minimum of 3.0 GPA. Select on link below for application.  Postmarked by March 2, 2018

Frederick Memorial:  Applicants are evaluated on three criteria: academic achievement, participation and leadership in school and community activities. Further details regarding this scholarship can be read by selecting the Frederick Memorial link in the attachment section.  Applicant must submit an essay, please see last page of the PBL Common Application.  Award: $2,000 for four years. Due: April 15, 2018 into the guidance office.

Virginia Graham Scholarship:  For those pursuing a degree in education or child development.   Academics, leadership, essay. Select on link below for application.  Award: $1,000.  Needs to be postmarked by March 2, 2018

Kelly J. Griffin:  For those pursuing a degree in Post-Secondary Education in a Special Education Field of Teacher, Social Worker, S/L Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy.  Award $500.  Applicant must also complete an essay, please see the last page of the PBL Common application.  Deadline:  April 27, 2018 to the guidance office.

Loda United Methodist Church:  Active in church, minimum 3.0 average. Award: $1,000. This scholarship has its own application, please select on attachment below.  Postmarked by March 31, 2018.

Helen G. Moore:  Need, character, leadership, citizenship, perseverance, resourcefulness and rank in upper one-third of graduating class. Winner of award will need to send college transcript to High School after 1st Semester and then after 2nd Semester.  Checks will be then provided to student upon each transcript being received.  Applicant must submit an essay, please see last page of the PBL Common Application.  Due:  May 2, 2018.

Nexstep Commercial Products:  Student looking to continue their education at a two-year college or trade school.  Award:  $1,000.  Preference will be given to students who are currently employed or who have a parent who is employed by Nexstep Commercial Products and to those enrolling in a trade school focused on a mechanical or electrical trade.  Applicant must also submit an essay, please see last page of the PBL Common Application.  Further details regarding this scholarship can be read by selecting the Nexstep Commercial Products link in the attachment section.  Due:  May 1, 2018 into the guidance office.

Paxton Park District:  Student looking to continue their education in a two or four year college or university.  Award:  $500.  The recipient must have been or is currently employed at the Park District, or has volunteered for the Park District.  The award recipient will be chosen based on their quality of performance while employed at the Park District.  Applicant must also submit an essay, please see last page of the PBL Common Application.  Further details regarding this scholarship can be read by selecting the Paxton Park District link in the attachment sectionDue:  May 1, 2018 into the guidance office.

Paxton Masonic Lodge:  Criteria:  Demonstration of compassion for others.  Award: $500.  This scholarship also has a form along with the PBL Common Application, please see below in attachment area.  Applicant must submit an essay, please see last page of the PBL Common Application.  Due:  May 2 into the guidance office.  

PBL Youth Football & Cheerleading:  Criteria:  Applicant needed to have participated in the youth league.  Award:  2-$500.  Applicant must submit an essay, please see last page of the PBL Common Application.  Due:  April 4, 2018 into the guidance office.  

Jeff Sellek Memorial:  Senior student is currently participating in the ICE / Vocational program.  First priority will be given to students looking to continue their education at a trade school else student will be continuing at a 2 or 4-year college.  This student promotes respect, dedication and humility while on the job.  Award:  $500.  This scholarship requires an essay, please see back page of the PBL Common Application.  Further details regarding this scholarship can be read by selecting the Jeff Sellek Memorial Scholarship link in the attachment section.  Due:  May 1, 2018 into the guidance office.

Charles C. Shaw Scholarship:  The recipient shall be a graduating senior of good character and academic standing from Paxton High School or Mattoon High School who will be attending Eastern Illinois University.  First priority shall be given to an athlete who will be attending Eastern Illinois University. Should an athlete not be available to receive the award, and then the award shall be granted to a Physical Education major attending Eastern Illinois University. Should an athlete or Physical Education major not be available, then the award shall be granted to a student studying in Science at Eastern Illinois University.  Due Date:  March 15, 2018

SVC Scholarships: Academic, fine arts, athletics. Do not need to be a conference athlete. Award $500.  Once complete, please return back into the Guidance Office. Deadline:  April 20.

Sweet Performing Arts Memorial:  Good academic standing.  Primary consideration will be given to students continuing their education in the Performing Arts. Further details regarding this scholarship can be read by selecting the Sweet Performing Arts Memorial link in the attachment section.  Applicant must submit an essay, please see last page of the PBL Common Application.  Award: $4,000 ($1,000 provided directly to college beginning of each year). Due: April 15, 2018 into the guidance office.

Marilyn M. Weber Scholarship:  This One-time $1000.00 Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating PBL senior who is registering for admission to a university or college, junior college or a vocational school and pursuing a career in Finance or Accounting.  This student must have a GPA of 3.0 or above.  Postmarked by March 15, 2018  

Robert E. Woodworth, Jr.:  This individual attended Paxton High School and is looking to give back our PBL High School students. Criteria:  Attending 4-year university in Illinois, 3.0 GPA, financial need, and majoring in Architecture, Engineering or Music.  Applicant must submit an essay, please see last page of the PBL Common Application.  Award:  $1,500.  Due: May 2, 2018 into the guidance office.
