JAK-L Foundation Scholarship
Eligibility:
1) Career Intent or Commitment to Mental Health Advocacy - Applicant must either have a clear intention to pursue a career in the mental health field (e.g., psychology, psychiatry, social work, counseling) or a commitment to promoting mental health awareness, education, or advocacy through actions that contribute to greater understanding or support of mental health in their community or beyond.
2) Evidence of Resilience, Empathy, or Personal Experience - Applicant must show evidence of personal resilience, empathy, or a meaningful personal experience with mental health, reflecting a commitment to improving the field or societal understanding of mental health.
3) Grades should NOT be the determining factor for who receives this scholarship. The scholarship is intended for a student who is passionate about expanding mental health awareness and erasing the stigma surrounding mental health.
4) Submission of an essay "Personal Journey and Vision for Advancing Mental Health".

The Matt Alsfield Award

They should befriend those who don't fit into the norm. They should treat teachers and other students with respect.

This scholarship is made possible by a generous endowment from the Irwin D. & Lillian E. Pottle Educational Trust. Mr. and Mrs. Pottle were Oxford residents and very active in the community. Mrs. Pottle, who passed away in 2002, worked as the plant manager for a local knitting mill for 34 years. Mr. Pottle, who passed away in 1988, served as long-time Principal of Oxford High School until his retirement in 1981. Mr. Pottle cherished his time at Oxford High School, retiring with many fond memories of his years working in the District, and of the many wonderful staff members and students he encountered along the way. The Pottle’s only son, Glenn, predeceased them in 1973.

Mr. Vincent was retired from the U.S. Navy, having served proudly in Operation Desert Storm. He was a beloved long-time custodian with the Oxford Public Schools ending his career as Head Custodian at the A. M. Chaffee School, where he was a valued member of the staff.

This scholarship is made possible by a generous donation from Judith F. Pytko to honor the memory of her beloved husband, Paul, and father-in-law, George. The Pytko family are long time Oxford residents. Paul attended Oxford High School and furthered his education by earning both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in civil engineering, specializing in structural engineering. He worked his entire career in the heavy construction field supervising and managing large complex projects such as dams, interstate highways, bridges, utilities, and large scale site work. He worked as President of the Pytko Construction Corporation up until the time of his death in 2006.

Roger and Myrtle Bacon Scholarship
Mr. Bacon was the principal at Oxford High School for 13 years, retiring in 1994. He began his career at Oxford High School in 1961 and worked as a math teacher, coach, guidance counselor, and assistant principal prior to becoming principal. Throughout his life he remained active in Oxford education and was a mentor to many. He served as chairman of the building committee during construction of the new high school building, and the gym was named the Roger D. Bacon Gymnasium in his honor. Through his time at the high school, Mr. and Mrs. Bacon proudly attended 69 proms.
Mr. and Mrs. Bacon were both active in local sports. They were members of the MIAA and Mr. Bacon was the Central Massachusetts Director of High School Basketball for 43 years. They were fans of all the New England Sports Teams, and held season tickets for the UConn Girls Basketball team for many years.
Mr. and Mrs. Bacon served on many town committees in Oxford. Mr. Bacon was named “Man of the Year” in Oxford and was known to many as Mr. Oxford. They were active members of the First Congregational Church in Oxford and served on many church committees as well.

Golden Futures Awards & Scholarships
Award Amount: Eight students will receive $20,000 scholarships, and 12 students will receive $10,000 scholarships.
Eligibility: Applicants must be current high school juniors or seniors at the time of application. High school seniors must plan to enroll full-time in an undergraduate program at an accredited 2- or 4-year college, university, vocational-technical school, or CEGEP (or equivalent) for the upcoming academic year. High school juniors will have their scholarship deferred for one year and must enroll in the academic year that follows. Children of New York Life, Zogo, SAI, their affiliates, and their immediate family members are not eligible.
