Acceptable Use Agreement
Otago Girls’ High School provides students with access to the school’s wireless network. All students are required to bring a personal computer to school to enhance their education. The purpose of these guidelines is to:
Ensure that students know the limitations that the school imposes on the use of computers and other personal computing and communicating devices at school.
Provide students an understanding of their responsibility as a good citizen of the Internet
General usage
The use of a computer is a requirement for all students.
The use of personal devices, other than a computer, in the classroom is at the discretion of the teacher, and students must obtain teacher permission before using such device.
Student use of personal devices must support the teaching and learning activities currently occurring in the classroom.
Students must turn off and put away personal devices when requested by the teacher.
Students shall not connect personal devices to any network cable in the school.
Responsibilities and expected behaviours
Respect Yourself. Select online names that are appropriate and consider the information and images that you post online
Protect Yourself. Do not share your password. Do not publish personal details, contact details or a schedule of your activities
Respect Others. Do not use technologies to bully or tease other people
Protect Others. Protect others by reporting abuse and not forwarding inappropriate materials or communications
Respect Intellectual Property. Suitably cite any and all use of websites, books, media, etc.
Protect Intellectual Property. Request to use the software and media others produce
Students may only access appropriate information and must use appropriate language.
Students must never use another user’s access to any of the school’s computer systems.
Students must abide by the school’s ‘Acceptable Use Agreements’ at all times
Students assume total responsibility for any personal device brought to the school.
Students are responsible for keeping their computers charged and in good working order.
Other than help with connecting to the OGHS network, the school’s technical support personnel is not expected to provide technical support for student owned devices.
Access control
Internet usage while connected to school’s network using either a school computer or a personal device is tracked.
The school can block a student's use of the Internet due to inappropriate use or behaviour.
