Multiplication & Division


We develop multiplication and division conceptually through building knowledge of pieces, groups and the total.  Students progress from using materials with pieces and groups to imagery of pieces, and eventually to abstract composite thinking to generate a correct total.  A critical prerequisite to developing multiplication and division is the understanding of a number as a numerical composite.
