Work Expectations
Students will be asked to:
Be kind and work hard.
Read with focus for at least 30 minutes every day for homework.
Log their daily reading on the Post-it or bookmark provided.
(Finished books will be logged and celebrated on a classroom poster.)Complete any additional ELA homework assignments.
In 4th & 5th grade, I highly encourage personal responsibility.
Students should be completing assignments independently.
Please support your child at home by monitoring their homework folder, schedule, and assignments.
Reading is their MOST important homework! Please monitor their effort at home. Thank you!
TIPS for Reluctant Readers:
Read a book with your child. (Take turns reading aloud. This is great fluency practice!)
Read your own book while they are reading their book. (Model strong reading behaviors.)
While preparing dinner, ask them to read in the kitchen or in another room where they are
in your line of sight. If you are doing computer work, ask them to sit beside you. Invite them into your home office!
Monitor their comprehension. Ask them questions about their book. (Tell me what happened
in this chapter. Who is your favorite character? Why? What do you think will happen next?)
Students are highly encouraged to read over the weekend and on holiday breaks! Thank you for your support!
