OPEF Vex Robotics Volunteer Job Descriptions
We need you! Volunteers are key to the success of this program. Meetings are held on Thursdays from 3:30-5 pm and on Saturday mornings from 9 am-12 noon.
(1) Mechanics Advisor – Do you enjoy mechanics, or building stuff in general? Whether you are a professional or hobbyist, the students need assistance with their mechanical designs and implementations of their robots. Training is available to get you up to speed quickly!
(2) Programming Advisor – Are you a software engineer, programming geek, or a casual hacker? The students need help learning the principles of programming, and applying them to controlling their robots. The programming language is easy to learn, and assistance will be provided. No specific language experience is necessary.
(3) Parts Czar(ina) – If your strong suit is organization, we need volunteers to take charge of the large assortment of parts that make up the robots. Much time is saved by individuals who know where the part is, when it’s running low, etc. We’ll help get you started!
(4) Machinist – Students often need to bend, cut, and file the various parts used to build the robots. Help is needed to supervise these activities and ensure that they are performed safely. This person would be in charge of all the tools and areas where this is done.
(5) Arena Master – This person would take charge of the setup and breakdown of the competition arena, and organize and oversee the students as they test and practice with their robots in the arena area to ensure this resource is used efficiently.
(6) Competition Event Staff – We will need plenty of help for our competition on Saturday, February 5 (tentative date). We count on parents to help with scorekeeping, refereeing, set-up/take-down, food and general support tasks. Have a specific skill, like audio/video, photography or event planning? There’s a place for you!
