Important general information about Spanish class can be found on this page. Please see below.
Grading Policy:
Only students in grades 4-8 receive grades for Spanish class. Each class will have at least five graded assignments each trimester. Students will be working on their communication skills, primarily in the areas of reading and listening. In the past, assignment categories have been weighted; however, given that all students have Spanish just one day a week this year, there will be no weighted categories.
Grades will be updated once a week, usually on Thursdays. You can look at your child's Spanish grade by logging into Option C.
Assessment Policy:
The point of an assessment is evaluate students' mastery of a concept. For that reason, I allow students to retake any graded assessment. If a student would like to retake an assessment, they will need to fill out the "Request to Retest" form found in their Google Classroom. Once they have completed that form, I will schedule a time during study hall for a retake.
Homework Policy:
In general, but especially this year, I tend to not assign homework for several reasons. I expect my students will work hard in class and do their best; therefore, I do not want them to be doing more work at home. I also feel that my students should have time outside of school to do activities that they enjoy. This year, having that free time is especially important for their mental health. I never want Spanish to be a source of stress or anxiety for my students or their families; for that reason, I do not assign homework for homework's sake.
I try to give students ample time to finish assignments in class. However, should extra time be required, I may ask them to complete their work during a study hall period. Because all students have a week in between each Spanish class, there should be more than enough time. Students should also take time either during study hall or at home (should they choose) to review for assessments.
Additionally, if students do not turn in an assignment, I will let them know via Google Classroom. You will also receive an email from me. Students will need to complete and turn in any missing assignments. I will not deduct points for lateness.
