As a certified DELF examinator, I strongly believe in the power of authentic learning tasks. Students should be able to listen, speak, read and write in the real world. For instance, they should be able to read and order from a menu, ask for directions or discuss their likes and dislikes with a friend. Any language structures or vocabulary should be taught in the context of achieving an authentic task. Grammar should be integrated and not an add on.
As a New Pedagogies for Deep Learning Teacher of Distinction, I believe in the incredible power of deep learning. When learning is student centered, and connected the real world problem's such as climate change, students can build on their 21st century skills (collaboration, communication, character, creativity, citizenship and critical thinking) while also acquiring French language skills. These big questions and problems inevitably lead to multi-disciplinary thinking and integration of subjects as well.
Lastly, I believe that adolescence is the bridge between childhood and adulthood. Students will go back and forth on this bridge. From one day to the next or even one moment to the next my students will find themselves on different spots on this bridge. It is my duty to acknoweldge and respect where my students are, connect with them and hopefully help their path.
