Genetics is the study of genes, genetic variation and heredity of organisms. This unit will explore this at the molecular level, specifically focusing on DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid), the "Blueprint" of an organism.
Throughout this unit we will be covering the following major topics:
DNA Replication- the process of creating two identical DNA molecules from an original parent DNA molecule
Transcription- the process of creating RNA (Ribonucleic Acid) from a parent DNA molecule
Translation- the process of creating a polypeptide chain from an RNA molecule
Before delving into these processes, it is important to understand the structure of DNA.
