Secondary Student Success Teacher
Your Student Success Teacher is responsible for:
Knowing and tracking the progress of students at risk of not graduating.
Providing direct support/instruction to students to improve achievement.
Supporting school-wide efforts to improve outcomes for struggling students.
Re-engaging early school leavers.
Working with parents and community.
To accomplish this, the Student Success Teacher works closely with individual students and classroom teachers.
Some of the ways the Student Success Teacher will support students include:
Developing positive relationships with students based on mutual respect
Monitoring attendance – strong attendance supports success
Communicating regularly with parents
Ensuring that class work is completed
Working one-on-one with students on assignment completion
Helping students develop effective work and study skills
Working with teachers to create improvement plans for students
Accessing additional supports. This may include making referrals to guidance/youth care worker/administration
Advocating for student needs
Working on credit rescue/recovery
These comprehensive supports are in place to meet the needs of the whole student, helping ensure they have the confidence, tools and abilities to experience personal and academic success.
