This course focuses on the processes that occur in biological systems. Students will learn concepts and theories and conduct investigations in the areas of cellular biology, microbiology, genetics, the anatomy of mammals, and the structure of plants and their role in the natural environment. Emphasis will be placed on the practical application of concepts, and on the skills needed for further study in various branches of the life sciences and related fields.
Keys to Success in Biology
1. Keep detailed notes and review them regularly. If you miss a note, be sure to catch up on it by using the class calendar below.
2. Complete ALL assigned homework. The questions and handouts are designed to both review concepts covered in class and to prepare for the next topic.
3. If you are lost, or even mildly confused, come see me for extra help. Do not wait until the day before the quiz or test!
4. Get the most out of your labs by preparing for them, taking down relevant observations as you perform them, and working on the skills the lab requires.
5. Do not underestimate the power of daily review. If you put the time in, preparing for quizzes and tests will be much less stressful and you will be more successful!
