Dear Parents and students,

Welcome to my website! This website was created for students and parents to find resources for the subjects that I teach. However, I will post weekly reminders about homework and due dates for assignments on the "Google Classroom". Your child will be invited to be in the classroom and you can also join in order to get a weekly summary of what your child accomplished that week.

The students are expected to review what they have learned in class on their own time and to finish work that they were unable to finish during class time. When your child says that he/she does not have homework, I encourage the students to review the work they did in class. It is easier for students to review what they have done on a daily basis, rather than study the night before the test and be stressed. There will be quizzes, tests, projects and fun activities based on the units we do in class. They are able to borrow books from the school library. I have also listed some French web sites for the students to explore during their free time under « school resources ». The Student-Parent Handbook has been attached below and it goes over all of the rules and expectations of Cedarview.

How can I help my child in learning French as a second language?

Even if you are not a French speaker, your positive attitude and encouragement can often help your child learn French. Put a French radio station on (e.g. Radio-Canada 90.7, CIMF 94.9, CKTF 104.1) in the background at breakfast, watch a movie with French subtitles or listen in French with English subtitles. Read stories, magazines, and newspapers in French or visit Gatineau! In Ottawa, we have French all around us. Take advantage of our situation with your child and help them learn French and appreciate the culture!

How can I buy or borrow French resources?

You can purchase French resources of various kinds, such as music, CD ROMs, activity books, picture books and videos.

They are available at the Centre Franco-Ontarien (435 Donald St. 613-747-8000) and "La librairie du soleil" (33 George Street, Ottawa). You can also visit the Ottawa Public Library to borrow French books and programs (www.library.ottawa.on.ca).

I look forward to the school year! If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. My email is crystal.lyle@ocdsb.ca

Kind regards,

Crystal Lyle
