Is Music the Key to Success? by Joanne Lipman

Condoleezza Rice trained to be a concert pianist.  Alan Greenspan, former chairman of the Federal Reserve, was a professional clarinet and saxophone player.  The hedge fund billionaire Bruce Kovner is a pianist who took classes at Julliard.

Music Department active in 2010!

The John McCrae Music Department is once again a very busy place!  This year the department has held two very successful concerts, with the December Holiday Concert being a "sell out"!  This concert was particularly enjoyable as it also featured special guests Harmonic Generation (Mr. Szabo's Acapella choir)!

Please enjoy the video of All Executive performing #41 by the Dave Matthews Band from the fall awards night.

The Elektric Band and Quarrel of the Foes also both performed strongly.  The Elektric Band earned a Silver Standard, while Quarrel of the Foes earned a Bronze Standard.  The Elektric Band joins the Concert Band and Jazz Orchestra as ensembles eligible to compete at Musicfest Nationals.

Remembrance Day

As part of the school's ongoing efforts to emphasize the importance of Remembrance Day, the Concert Band performed beautifully at this year's ceremony.  They performed an arrangement of Amazing Grace by Frank Ticheli, Lux Aurumque by Eric Whitacre, and O' Canada.

Special thanks also goes out to Colin Kealty for performing the Last Post, and to Ian Lockhart, and Ashley Bernard for performing a stirring vocal duet with their accompanist Ashley Kurkjian.

Christina Picanco also did an outstanding job enriching the assembly of Jockvale Elementary School by playing the Last Post
