Using Parenthetical Citations

Parenthetical Citations

-have to be used when you use an idea from a book, encyclopedia, online article, journal, video, audio… in short, anything from which you used that idea

-acknowledges that the ideas you are using for your paper are not your own.

-is a way of strengthening your argument because you are using information that has already been proven (if you are using it from a strong source!)

-is information in your text that collaborates with a listing on your bibliography

Remember,

  • You will need to add an entry in your bibliography for each item you use to correspond to your parenthetical parenthetical citation.
