Plan & results

    1. Recruitment

      • By March 22 OMnI recruits a first cohort of Oberlin College Faculty willing to introduce a new week-long teaching module into an introductory course during the 2010-2011 academic year.

      • Graduate students from the University of Michigan Center for the Study of Complex Systems visits Oberlin interested in the projects proposed by the Oberlin College faculty are identified.

      • The module will use dynamic systems modeling to elucidate some aspects of the course material

      • Instructors will receive a stipend of $2000 for attending the summer workshop and teaching the new material in their course.

    2. Day-long symposium

      • A group from the University of Michigan Center for the Study of Complex Systems visits Oberlin.

      • Opportunities are created for individual meetings between Michigan and Oberlin personnel.

    3. Workshops

      • Contracted with the Shodor Institute to have their staff lead a workshop on dynamical modeling.

      • OMnI/Shodor workshop scheduled for June 6-11

      • OMnI followup retreat for June workshop participants scheduled for Aug 26-27.

    4. Deployment

      • Modules to be used in the classes are completed

      • Faculty with the assistance of the graduate students from Michigan have students in the Oberlin College courses use the models to understand specific concepts.
