Virtual Academy FAQ
I am currently homeschooling my child. Do you offer a program that will provide curriculum and other support?
YES
I live in Yakima/Selah/Tieton, can I enroll my child in Naches?
Currently we are only accepting those students with a permanent residence within the Naches Valley School District but will review enrollment requests from adjoining districts only.
I have a student in First grade. How does online learning work for them?
In our 1-3 program, we offer a variety of curriculum choices that can, but don't have to, include an online learning component in conjunction with hands on learning/kits.
Can my student just take an English class online and remain in regular classes?
Not at the High School Level. During your introductory meeting with your school counselor, all of the options for your student will be discussed to provide the best fit.
Who do I call to enroll?
Typically your first point of contact will be the school counselor. If you are not sure who that is, feel free to call (509) 653-1528 and speak with Mr. Davidson.
Can my child graduate with an official Washington State High School diploma?
YES.
How many credits are required for Graduation from NVVA?
NVVA-HS follows the Washington State Graduation Requirements.
*depends also on their year in school as state requirements change
Can students that earn their HS Diploma from the Virtual Academy still participate in the Graduation Ceremony in June?
YES (it is encouraged)
Will my child be able to enroll in a College, University, Community College or Technical School when s/he graduates from the Virtual Academy?
YES! We have students that have gone on to 4-year, 2-year, tech programs and enlisted in the military. The sky is the limit!
What Courses are offered through your program?
We offer a wide variety of required courses as well as remediation, Honors and Advanced Placement courses to meet all of your childs' needs.
I heard that the Naches Valley Virtual Academy is for students that have gotten in trouble or have drug/alcohol issues...is that true?
No. The only thing we look at to recommend a student for the Virtual Academy is simply their credits [lack thereof]. If they are credit deficient and are not on track to Graduate on time, we recommend a Virtual Academy placement. Many of our students are Honors and AP students or simply require a flexible schedule due to extenuating circumstances.
Can students that attend the Virtual Academy enroll in YVCC-Running Start and/or YV-Tech?
YES
Do you help with career exploration and / or job placement?
Yes, We have a Partnership Program with local businesses for job shadows and employment. Career exploration and a job shadow is a piece of their culminating project as well.
Where are you located?
We are located in the parking lot of the Intermediate School in the Quonset Hut [107 Shafer Avenue].
