Mr. Gilmore
It is my honor and privilege to introduce myself as the principal of John C. Bass Elementary School. Over the past eight years, we have built this strong relationship that has allowed me to serve our community as your principal. I will continue to dedicate my time and efforts toward improving our school and providing our students with an educational environment consisting of hard work, positivity, and a great deal of fun.
For those of you that I have not had the chance to meet, I moved to Las Vegas in 1996 from New Jersey to attend the University of Nevada Las Vegas, GO REBELS!, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. As an educator, I have worked as an elementary school teacher and assistant principal. On a more personal note, my wife, Michelle, is a Read by Grade 3 Strategist at Stuckey Elementary School and we have two children. Our daughter, Kennedy, is an 8th grader at Lois and Jerry Tarkanian MS and our son, JJ, is 10-years old and in 5th grade. When many of you meet me or step into my office, you may already suspect that I am an avid New York sports fan. On Sundays in the fall, I represent my New York Giants and throughout the spring I am watching Yankees baseball. However, I am 100% a Vegas Golden Knights fan as well. Most of all, my family is who I spend my time with when I’m not serving the students, teachers, and families of Bass ES.
As principal of Bass Elementary School, I look forward to working with all of you. Our focus will be to improve each student’s overall achievement in Science, Math and Literacy, but we will always require your support. The foundation of success can only be achieved through consistent communication, collaboration, and the hard work of all stakeholders and community members. We must work together to ensure our students exhibit these same qualities in order to become outstanding citizens.

I am excited to be joining the Bass family as your Assistant Principal. I am looking forward to a wonderful year with our students, and moving them forward to reach their goals. I believe that students are capable of accomplishing great things when we hold them to high expectations and provide a positive atmosphere that allows them to grow socially and academically.
I am beginning my 21st year in education. I have served in a position as a classroom teacher, English Language Learner Specialist, and as an Assistant Principal. I am originally from California, but have called Las Vegas my home for the past 27 years. I moved to Las Vegas to attend UNLV, where I received a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Studies. I quickly learned that I had a passion for working with youth, and I went on to receive a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and another in Educational Leadership.
In my personal time, I enjoy quality time with my family. I am married to an educator who shares my passion for helping students be their best. We have 2 children, a son (10) in 5th grade and daughter (6) in 1st grade. We like to spend time swimming, playing sports and traveling. I am a cheerleader in every sense of the word and have spent many weekends traveling the country to judge cheerleading competitions (like you see on TV), and I also have the privilege of coaching my daughter's competitive team. Traveling for cheerleading has led me to many beautiful parts of this country, and I look forward to returning to some of these places when the opportunity comes.
I recognize that student success comes through a partnership between home and school. I look forward to working with students, parents, staff and the community to uphold the level of excellence Bass is known for. I look forward to a fantastic school year!
