Policies and Procedures

Homework

Regular homework will consist of reading 30 minutes each day and completing a reading response. Response choices will be provided. Classwork that does not get completed will also be sent home. From time to time work for a project or incomplete drafts in writing may also be sent home for completion.

Grading Policy

Work turned in on time is eligible for full credit. In the event of an absence, students will be given an extra day for each absence to make up work. Late work will result in a Pink Slip. Any graded work sent home with a failing grade (<69%) may be corrected for credit back.

By 5th grade, students should be responsible for meeting deadlines and turning in quality work. This is imperative for middle school. Please help support this goal of personal responsibility by having your student regularly fill in their assignment notebook. If the student is missing an assignment, they need to be responsible for coming in to ask the teacher about the missing work.

Behavior Management

The 5th grade expectations for student behavior and personal responsibility are high. In preparation for middle school, our students are treated as capable young adults and will be held accountable for their actions (or inaction.)

When a student makes a negative choice that interferes with teaching and/or learning, the behavior management plan is as follows:

1. Warning

2. Student gets their name on the board with 1 check mark

3. Student receives 2 check marks - Behavior is recorded on our Clipboard Behavior Chart (5 recordings on the chart/week=no extra recess on Friday)

4. Behavior continues, then an email or letter is sent home, or student is referred to the principal.
