Dear Elementary Parent’s: 1/11/18

The elementary wrestling season is fast approaching and as always we are looking to get as many kids involved as possible. Wrestling is a sport that is often misunderstood, but can provide great benefits in both the long and short term. It truly is a sport like no other. As a solo sport with only you and your opponent it teaches accountability as well as hard work.

The elementary season starts February 21st. There will be more information sent out in February. Unlike many other sports it is a very short season (only six weeks). This gives your son the opportunity to try something new and still allow them to explore different activities. Our main goal is to get kids interested in the sport.

The wrestling program as a whole includes a large number of student-athletes. We have over 55 wrestlers on the high school team and nearly 60 on the middle school team. We are always looking for more wrestlers, as you can never have enough. As with most sports the sooner you start a program the more success you will have in the future, which is something every parent wants for their child. The chance to try a different, and possibly new, sport can also be healthy for a child. A large amount of research shows that varying the sport being played is better for the body than only playing the same sport year-round.

One of the best aspects of the elementary program is everyone gets the chance to wrestle. Unlike other activities wrestling allows kids of all abilities and sizes an equal chance to compete. We try to pair wrestlers up by age, weight, and skills so everyone has good competition and the opportunity for success.

I strongly urge you to get your child involved with wrestling, there are many benefits and few if any drawbacks. We look forward to working with your child in the great sport of wrestling!
