Cross Country

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I am happy to announce that in the fall of 2022, NPUSC will be beginning an elementary cross country sports program. This program is designed to give children an opportunity to work on their own personal fitness in a friendly and competitive environment. The emphasis will be on personal growth, personal improvement, and understanding healthy life choices in relation to fitness.

Since this is a new program, we are beginning sign ups this spring to get an idea of how many children we can expect to have participate in the program this fall. Signing up now does not lock your child into participating, I will be contacting you again in the fall to verify if your child still wants to participate. To help you make a decision, here is an overview of the program.

This program is open to all boys and girls in New Prairie schools that are in grades 3 - 5. Students will race against their own grade level and gender. The season will begin the week of August 15th. There will be either 3 or 4 practices per week, and a practice will not extend more than 1 hour after the end of the school day. The distance that the elementary school students will be running is 1 mile. Each elementary school (Olive, Prairie View, Rolling Prairie) will host one competition, and the season will conclude with an end of season tournament that will be held on the high school cross country course on September 10th.

The only required equipment for this is for a student to have comfortable running shoes, cross country running spikes are not required. Parents will be required to purchase a running shirt (Approximately $10-$15) for a student to use during meets and the tournament. The shirt will be purchased online, I will be sharing the website on August 15th and parents will have one week to order their shirt. There is assistance available if you are unable to purchase this, please contact me at danielreffo@npusc.k12.in.us if you require this assistance.
