We have an exciting week ahead in Kindergarten! Here is a look at what we are working on and a few important reminders for families.
Handwriting Without Tears: We officially started our Handwriting Without Tears curriculum today! The students are going to begin learning how to build and form their letters correctly, starting with frog jump capitals today. You will find BOTH a Capital Letter Formation Chart and Lowercase Formation Chart in the folder to keep at home as a tool to use when writing at home (especially on the homework)!
HMH Into Reading: Today we also launched our HMH Into Reading curriculum where we started talking about nouns, read the story Keisha Ann Can, and talked about our power words: dream, discover, and partners.
Weekly Focus Letter: Please check your child’s folder each week for the updated Weekly Focus Letter. This sheet outlines everything we are focusing on that week in reading. It’s a wonderful tool to help guide conversations at home about what we are learning in the classroom!
Get ready to show off that school spirit later this week!

⚾ Friday: Brewer’s Day (Wear your Brewers gear or navy and yellow!)
Those morning recesses can get quite chilly!
Temperature Policy: If the "feels like" temperature is below 60°F at 9:45 AM (our first recess), students are required to wear long sleeves or a jacket/sweatshirt outside.
Please remember to check your child’s folder every night and empty out the "Stay at Home" side. Returning a clean folder each morning helps keep us organized!
Here are a few reminders for the week:
1. Please be prepared that Park Road will be closed today in the afternoon and will remain closed until Monday afternoon due to Harvest Fest. Entry to the school parking lot will be possible from HWY VV only.
2. Picture retake day for 3K, 4K, and K-8th grade will be on Tuesday, September 22nd. Parents should contact the office if they wish to have their child’s picture retaken not VIP. Students who did not have their picture taken at registration will have their photos taken that day.
3. Please register for the AHS Grade School Run on the NLS website if your child is attending (see the upper right corner of website. The run is Wednesday, September 23rd starting at 5:00 p.m.

We are still rocking along with Color Week in Kindergarten! 🎨 Our kindergarteners have been having so much fun learning about and celebrating a new color each day. We love seeing everyone join in by wearing our color of the day!
This Friday, September 18th, we are planning to take our first walking field trip to the Town Hall Library! We will leave school around 8:40 a.m. and walk over together as one big Kindergarten group.
Please make sure your child has comfortable walking shoes and is dressed appropriately for the weather. We are so excited for our first little Kindergarten adventure! 📚👟

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? North Lake’s 33rd Annual Harvest Fest is happening this Saturday, September 19th from 11:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m. at North Lake Fireman’s Park! The parade begins at 12:00 p.m. 🎉
There will be kids’ activities, bingo, a vendor market, food trucks, live music, and more! Admission is FREE, so bring the family and enjoy a fun day in our North Lake community! 🍁🧡
Today we started by learning all about the color RED! ❤️ We will continue having fun learning, reading, and exploring our colors throughout the next two weeks.
📚 Literacy Bags & Word Rings
We introduced our word rings and literacy bags! These will travel to and from school every day along with your child’s take-home folder and water bottle. Please help your child get into the routine of bringing these items back to school each morning and completing their assigned tasks each night. Working on reading those word ring cards is a really important step to reading and writing.
✏️ Homework
Our first homework packets have also been introduced! Be sure to check your child’s take-home folder each night. We have updated the Take-Home Folder Log for the week with important information, assignments, and reminders.

We are so excited to welcome our special visitors for Grandparents Day this Friday! Please write a quick note in the Friday comments section of your child’s Take-Home Folder Log letting us know:

📚 Walking Trips to the Library
A walking field trip permission slip is coming home for our Kindergarten classes! Throughout the school year, we hope to take occasional walks as a Kindergarten group to visit the Town Hall Library.
Our first walking trip is tentatively planned for Friday, September 18th. Please sign and return the permission slip as soon as possible so your child is able to participate in our walking trips. We are excited to get out into our community and enjoy the library together!
⭐ Star of the Week
We are also introducing Star of the Week! Each Kindergartener has been assigned a special week during the school year when we will get to celebrate and learn a little more about them.
Information is coming home with your child’s assigned Star of the Week date and a schedule explaining the special activities they will get to participate in throughout their week. This includes their All About Me Poster and other fun opportunities to share, help, and shine as our classroom star! 🌟
Please keep the schedule somewhere safe so you know when your child’s special week is coming up. We can’t wait to celebrate each of our Kindergarten stars this year!

What a wonderful first week of Kindergarten! We have been busy getting to know our classroom, our classmates, and what it means to be a kindergartener at North Lake. 💛
This week, we spent lots of time learning and practicing our classroom routines and procedures, getting familiar with our daily schedule, exploring our school, and learning the expectations that help our days run smoothly. There is so much to learn at the beginning of Kindergarten, and we are so proud of the progress our students have already made!
