Primary / Elementary Physical Education

The Physical Education program is an activity-based program designed to develop fundamental movement skills required for an active lifestyle. It is a fun-filled program that promotes physical literacy through a variety of movement activities. The emphasis of the program is to promote sportsmanship, cooperation and fair play through movement. Children attended three thirty-minute classes a cycle.

The outcomes of the physical education program encourage learners to develop physically, cognitively, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Process skills are emphasized and students develop movement strategies to react to various situations, solve problems, and make decisions.

The curriculum includes a wide range of movement activities that are employed through the following movement themes.

  • Games: Space, Directions and Body Awareness

  • Games: Locomotor Skills

  • Games: Non-locomotor Skills

  • Games: Manipulative Skills – Projecting and Receiving

  • Games: Manipulative Skills – Accompanying Apparatus

  • Rhythmic Activities

  • Body Management and Orientation

  • Gymnastics

  • Sports Lead-Up Activities

  • Fitness

Safety

  • Students should wear proper footwear and clothing they can easily and safely move in.

    • Sandals, Crocs, clogs, dress shoes, boots and any heeled shoes are not appropriate for class.

  • Students should be prepared to go outside during P.E.

    • Please ensure your child wears weather appropriate clothing each day.

Gym Rules

  • Be respectful

    • Follow directions

    • Take care of the equipment (use it properly)

    • Play fairly and be a good sport

  • Be responsible

    • On signal, stop, look, and listen

      • Put equipment on the floor if needed

    • Listen carefully to, and follow directions

    • Come to class prepared and ready

  • Be safe

    • Wear proper gear

      • Gym sneakers, outdoors clothing, etc.

    • Be aware of your surroundings

      • Watch out for everyone else

  • Be active

    • Try the best you can

    • Attempt something new
