Our 14th Annual “Strike it RICH for Education” Bowlathon had unbelievable crowds & record profits!!  We raised over $34,000 to support education in New Kent!  This is the most we have ever made and it is due to the enthusiasm & support from our schools & New Kent community!!! We “packed the house” with 56 teams!!  We hope all of you had a great day of bowling action and fun while supporting a most important cause.  We were overwhelmed by your spirit and fundraising to support the NKEF!  We would like to recognize our top team for fundraising: Crump’s Crew Joe Crump - Team Captain, Sue Musselman, Allison Strickland, Alicia Akrie-Williams, Neko Burson, & Zachary Jacobs) brought in $2,155!  The person that raised the most money was Susan Musselman of Crump’s Crew, raising $1,200!!

We know many of you were waiting to hear which team had the highest & lowest average scores.  And what individual had the highest score?  Well, it was EXTREMELY CLOSE!!  Crump’s Crew beat out BOWLieve it or Not by .05!  Crump’s Crew (team captain Joe Crump) had a two game average of 145.85 and BOWLieve it or Not (team captain Ray O’Leary) had a two game average of 145.80!! For the 5th year, we had a special drawing for all team members who registered early for the event (by September 6th).  The drawing was for a $250 VISA gift card & Amy English was the lucky winner from A Team Has No Name!  We had a drawing for all teams that raised $500 or more with the winner of the drawing Living on a Spare (Team Captain Amy Mechling), raising $500.00. NKHS was the winner of the Donut Competition, bringing in 8 teams for our Bowlathon!  NKHS will enjoy a morning of donuts twice since they raised the most money as well- $4,765! The New Kent Educational Foundation was started in 2004 by a group of citizens looking for a way to provide additional resources for the schools in New Kent County, VA.  Over the past ten years the foundation has provided funding for numerous activities and resources to better the education of the New Kent students.

Some of the projects funded by the foundation include annual teacher grants, five student scholarships, a technology resource library, a variety of special projects, and an annual CPR day.  The foundation is always looking for new ideas and new members to help with supporting the education of our citizens.  If you would like to join in the efforts of the foundation visit our Get Involved page to learn more about ways to help.
