In third grade we will utilize Reading Workshop format. Below is more information of what that will look like during face to face and remote instruction.
My Reading Workshop consists of a 15-30 minute lesson on a particular strategy, followed by independent reading time. Students read books of their choice. Each day I meet with different students and hold individual reading conferences. During remote learning these small groups will look a little in that we will have targeted mini-lessons to increase their comprehension and /or fluency.
There are a variety of ways you can assess reading progress informally, but you will still need another formal assessment. We will be using Amplify MClass Beginning of Year, Middle of Year, and End of Year diagnostic as a way to monitor students reading progress.
To assess students informally, students are encouraged to use reading strategies in their writing and discussions of literature. They can write letters to me about what they were reading, make journal entries, and create/complete graphic organizers. I will be analyzing their reading progress during our face to face and remote small guided reading activities.
