TONE QUALITY: As you play scales, solo and sight reading think about your tone(sound quality) is it good? If not lets start with the basics and get that established.

Scales:

SLOW, SLOW, SLOW!!! You must practice slowly before you can ever imagine going fast.

    • Whole note, Half note, Quarter note, then 8th and 16th as the scale sheet goes.

    • Work on the new octaves and notes that are new to your major scale notes.

    • Chromatic scale should be broken down by measures or octaves.

Solos:

    • To begin you should read down slowly with a metronome.

    • Divide your solo up into sections or number the lines to give you a framework.

    • Work on one line at a time, Slowly, with a metronome.

    • Make sure you already see

Sight-reading:

READ, READ, READ!!!

    • Rhythm: Solid counting and rhythmic accuracy.

      • Read rhythms and even just a snare drum line in sight reading factory as rhythm practice.

    • Musical concepts: Phrasing, dynamics, Style and Articulation.

    • Notes(SCALE KEY): Relate this to the key signature and the major scale.
