Corning Inc. MLK Art Contest 2017

As part of a celebration for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2017, Corning Incorporated invited students at Pine Valley to enter an art contest. Our 2nd Grade students read the book "Martin's Big Words" by Doreen Rappaport and then created paper collages that embodied Martin Luther King's message and vision. Above are our three artists who took home the prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place representing Pine Valley!

Board of Education Choice Art Award 2017

In the Spring of 2017, Pine Valley was THRILLED to have it's first New Hanover County Board of Education Choice Art Award Winner! Then 1st Grader, Eva, had her artwork selected by School Board Member, Bruce Shell, to be hung in the Board Office for the 2017-2018 school year. This is a great honor as students from all grades across NHCS enter this competition.

Eva, along with her family, then Principal Mrs. Rebecca Higgins Opgrand, and myself attended the Superintendent's Art Awards Breakfast where Eva was able to say a few words about her work. Her piece selected was a part of our Dali Dreams unit, where we learned about Surreal artist, Salvador Dali, and created artwork of our dreams and imaginations.
