...have previous experience singing in a choral group.
...be comfortable singing your voice part (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, or Bass) alone in front of a judge. Your voice must be loud enough to be heard over a pre-recorded accompaniment track.

...be able to sight-sing a simple melody that may contain quarter notes, half notes, whole notes, eighth notes, and solfege (Do, Re, Mi, etc.) containing steps and skips.
...be willing to put in a lot of rehearsal time at school (during after-school rehearsals and Mastery time) and at home (practice your audition piece and sight-singing examples at least 30 minutes every day).
...be able to commit to the weekend of November 8 & 9, 2025. If you audition and are selected to be a part of the North Carolina Middle School Honors Chorus, you will be required to attend the rehearsals and performance at the North Carolina Music Educators Conference in Winston-Salem on these dates. If MGMS has students selected, I will send home information regarding additional music to be learned for this event, as well as hotel/lodging information.
If you are interested in committing to this audition process, please contact Mrs. Wood for an information packet, and if necessary, a vocal audition (only for students who were not in Chorus at MGMS last year). You will also have to sign up for Honors Chorus Mastery class in order to learn the music and practice sight-singing examples.
