Biography Projects will begin in the 3rd quarter. I encourage students to pick an individual who has inspired them and made a positive impact in our world!
Here is a list of Who Was books https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/series/DWY/who-was
You will need to APPROVE your child's choice for the project and choices will be due no later than January 6th. Keep in mind, many famous people may have histories that may be inappropriate for research, so please discuss choices with your child and do a bit of digging before committing. It would be difficult and time-consuming for me to complete this with each 5th grader- thanks for your help!
Please encourage an individual who has inspired many and made significant impacts on our world. There are some available in the school and public library as well!
WE WILL BE WRITING 2-3 PARAGRAPHES EACH FOR EARLY LIFE, MIDDLE LIFE, AND LATER LIFE, THEREFORE YOUR CHILD'S SUBJECT NEEDS TO BE OLDER THAN 30 YEARS OLD. OTHERWISE, THERE WILL NOT BE ENOUGH INFO ABOUT THEM. TAKE THIS INTO CONSIDERATION WHILE VIEWING THE WHO WAS BOOKS. WE HAVE DISCUSSED THIS IN DEPTH DURING OUR LESSONS.
Your child will get to dress up as the person or representation of their work and present their project to our class!
The projects will be based off of a 9-10 paragraph essay we will write in the next several weeks. Students will focus transition words for non-fiction, the depth of details in sequential order, how to identify pertinent info and elaborate on how it changes and inspires society, and how to navigate Google Slides!
Students are welcome to dress up as their subject or a representation of their subject (Sports player, character from their movie or book, I even had a past student get creative and dress up like a lightbulb to represent Thomas Edison!)
Students who do not wish to dress up can make a timeline poster. Directions will come home in your child's folder if this option works better for you. I will show students examples in class from last year's students!
We will hold our Author's Celebration on the day of the presentations. I am looking for volunteers to send in drinks and a light snack from each homeroom- sign up genius to come- thank you!
I am excited to see the new things we will all learn about these inspiring people!!!
TIMELINE POSTER DIRECTIONS (if your child chooses not to dress up)
1. Create a SEQUENTIAL timeline of all important events in the life of your subject complete with picture representations of at least 6 events~ can be hand drawn or printed from the computer.
2. The timeline must start with BIRTH and end at death/current day.
Can be done on poster board, cardboard, or large construction paper (I have some of this if you would like me to send a piece a piece home).
