Math Resources

What do we use to measure your child's math ability?  We use the benchmark assessment Aimsweb+.  This gives us information on your child's number sense, mental computation fluency, and understanding of fourth grade math objectives through word problem-solving.  Click here to see a comprehensive explanation of North Carolina math objectives for fourth grade (starts on page 4).

What resources does my child have access to in order to practice fourth grade math skillsWe have several digital subscriptions that students can use anywhere they have internet access.  Students must use a username and password to login.

Is there anything we can do to practice math skills that is not on a deviceYes!  Here is a link to a pdf of ready-to-print math games that you can play with your child.  I like to print these and put inside a sheet protector page and use a dry erase marker so they can be reusable.

My child's math does not look like the math that I did when I was growing up.  How can I help support them with the strategies they are being taught at school?  I understand the dilemma with wanting to support your child and not wanting to teach them something that is different than what they are being asked to do at school.  I have several videos that may be helpful in explaining the what, how, and why.  Check back because I plan to add more :)
