Honors Marine Science

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year!

Course Description:

Honors Marine Science (HMS) focuses on life in our oceans. Topics include oceanographic careers, ocean ecology and planktonic organisms, anatomy and physiology of marine organisms, behavior relationships, marine fisheries, habitat analysis, and explorations in marine technology. Dissections and lab investigations are an integral part of the course. An importance is placed on writing skills in all lab reports.

HMS Procedures and Pacing Guide

Grading Policy:

Q1 = 35% Major, 35% Minor. 15% Formative. 15% Mid Term
Q2 = 40% Major, 40% Minor, 20% Formative

Major Assessments: Tests, projects, and other significant assignments.
Minor Assessments: Quizzes, classwork, homework, and other smaller assignments.
Formative Assessments: Packets, Folders, Notebooks, Labs, and other related activities.
Final Assessment (20% Overall Grade) Affects F1, S1, and/or S2

*AFTERSCHOOL Tutoring/makeup day is Monday by appointment only, I am also available Thursday-Friday during Flex and EVERY DAY before school.

*Testing days are Monday/Wednesday this year.

*Assignments due by Sunday at Midnight unless otherwise noted.

*Late work turned in up to 5 days late will be deducted 10% (2 points per day).

*Work turned in after 5 days will receive half credit at most.
