Library Media Specialist

Hi ... My name is Jessica Moore, and I am the Library Media Specialist at Castle Hayne Elementary. I thoroughly enjoy being able to work with all of the students, staff, and parents at CHES. This is my sixth year at Castle Hayne, but I was also the librarian at Winter Park Elementary School for twelve years, Virgo Middle School for three years, and Brentwood Elementary School in Raleigh for four years. Before I became a librarian, I taught 5th grade language arts at Brentwood for one year, and I taught 1st grade in Memphis, TN for two years. I received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at The University of Memphis in May of 1998, and I graduated with my Masters in Library and Information Science from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in December of 2004. I also received my National Board Certification in Library Media (K-12) in November of 2010 and was awarded a renewal of this certification in October of 2019.

My inspiration to become a librarian came from my elementary school librarian, Grace James, as well as my mother who is a retired elementary school librarian in Wake County. Obviously, reading is one of my favorite pastimes. Some of my favorite books include The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Charlotte's Web, Watership Down, The Chronicles of Narnia, Holes, Peter Rabbit, Bunnicula, Wonder, The Twilight series, The Mouse and the Motorcycle, The War That Saved My Life, Refugee, and more picture books than I can possibly count! I have a feisty, little twelve year old daughter who loves to dance, draw, and read books just as much as both of her librarian parents. (Yes, my husband is a librarian, too!)

I am also interested in photography, picture framing, Australia, kangaroos, swimming, and hiking. Several years ago, my husband and I started hiking up the coast of North Carolina. So far, we have hiked from the SC border all the way up to the end of Oak Island. We hope to hike a couple of beaches each year until we make it all the way up to VA! Most of my extended family currently lives in North Carolina and my favorite time of year is when our WHOLE family goes on our annual trip to Atlantic Beach, NC for the 4th of July. My family also includes a couple of pets - two fluffy chow chows named Berkley and Bailey.
