I grew up in Winston-Salem, NC in a very athletic-driven family and played sports all my life. It wasn't until my junior year of high school that I decided to try chorus only because I had some free time in my schedule. My teacher that year changed my life and helped me discover a passion I didn't even know I had. She brought out a voice in me and gave me a new confidence within myself as a young singer. I knew within just a few weeks that music was what I wanted to pursue. Music took me on so many adventures during my college years including performing in opera workshops, choir tours to New York City and Germany, leading worship at church retreats around the state, and being able to offer the gift of music at weddings and funerals. However, my biggest adventure of all has been diving into the world of teaching, where my true passion lies. I graduated from UNC Wilmington in 2008 after completing my student internship here at Laney. I have been teaching at Laney since 2014. I came to Laney after five years of teaching choral music, general music, and music history at Roland-Grise Middle School here in Wilmington.
I am also a private voice teacher at a local studio in the Ogden area, Port City Music.
My husband Nate and I have a son named Riley, and two dogs named Annabelle and Juliette. We love spending time with our friends, going to the beach, riding bikes, going to concerts and watching sports!
I feel so fortunate to wake up and come to work everyday at Laney and get to make music with young people! My chorus classroom in high school was the place that changed my perspective on life, friendship and commitment. I hope that the passion and growing knowledge I have will give these students a taste of the amazing experience I had. I also hope this class is a place where students can look forward to coming each day, not only to learn, but to be able to express themselves in a way they are not able to do in any other subject.
Please feel free to contact me at any point during the year. See the Contact tab for information.
