Mixed Chorus
This is a non-auditioned group, the beginning level of vocal music. Here students learn the basics of music theory, reading music, music history, and vocal health, as well as being exposed to a wide variety of musical styles. It is recommended students take both semesters of Mixed Chorus if they plan on auditioning for an upper level group.
Treble Ensemble / Choral
This is an auditioned group for treble voices. Students are highly encouraged to take both semesters of chorus once you audition into this group in order to prepare you for Adventurers. In addition to two major concerts a year, this group will perform at Boosters Meetings, sing National Anthems around town and participate in music performance adjudication each spring.
Adventurers
This is the highest vocal ensemble at Laney. An auditioned group, a mixed choir of Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass voice parts. Students are required to take both semesters of chorus once you audition into Adventurers unless approved by Mrs. Mueske. In addition to two major concerts each year, this group participates in the New Hanover County All-County Chorus each fall, music performance adjudication each spring and a county arts showcase in March called Best Foot Forward. They also participate each year and consistently receive Superior ratings at regional Choral Festivals, and are frequently asked to perform around Wilmington, including singing the National Anthem at sporting events.
