In compliance with NC § 115C-76.100 – Effective 2025-2026
To support a focused, respectful learning environment and align with state law, Hoggard High School has implemented the following expectations regarding student use of wireless communication devices.
Why This Policy?
This policy is designed to:
Minimize distractions during instruction.
Promote respect for the learning environment.
Help students stay engaged and academically successful.
We appreciate your partnership as we build a campus culture that values focus, respect, and academic excellence.
During Instructional Time (Class Periods):
Devices must be off and out of sight during class unless a teacher explicitly authorizes their use for an academic purpose.
Students may only use a device during class if:
A teacher gives permission for learning activities.
There is an emergency.
The student’s IEP or 504 Plan allows for device use.
Where Should Phones Be Stored During Class?
All devices should be placed in one of the following, as directed by the teacher:
A designated phone pocket holder or caddy in the classroom (Not by exit door).
The student’s backpack, bag, or locker, as long as it remains off and out of sight, with teacher approval.
A secured location determined by the teacher if needed.
I will be collecting phones and locking them with a key until the end of class.
