Honors American Literature Course Description
American Literature (English III) is made up of four major units that cover a wide variety of American literature from the mid-nineteenth century to recent times. The fifth “unit” listed on the syllabus is a large-scale project called Proteus that will be underway throughout the last quarter and comprise the final exam.
Each of the four primary units contains works that represent diverse ethnic, racial, and social groups in historical, political, and economic contexts. Works include realist and naturalist literature, immigrant and Native American experience, and classic works from the World War eras, among others. Each of the major texts will be supplemented by a variety of minor texts, including short stories, memoirs, nonfiction articles, and others.
