LANGUAGE ARTS
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a reading growth program that we use in the elementary school. The librarian, classroom teacher, and student work together to set reading achievement goals. The student reads books and takes short comprehension quizzes over the material. The librarian and classroom teacher facilitate the student's growth towards their reading goals. The data base used for AR is called Renaissance. Your student should be reading a minimum of 20 minutes at home every night. They will also be reading in class. In addition to reading in class, students will quiz and make visits to the library. The Renaissance database has over 400,000 book quizzes. Students can quiz on school library books, public library books, and any personal books from home that they have read. The website for Renaissance can be found below. Your child's homeroom teacher will send home a Renaissance Home Connect letter a few weeks into school starting. This letter will give you log in information to connect to the Renaissance Database. You can do this and receive notifications every time your child quizzes on a book at school. It is a great way to see your child's progress in AR.

Amplify-CKLA
The Amplify CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts) program is grounded in the Science of Reading research and helps establish strong reading and language foundations in the classroom. The reading program in third grade helps students build strong reading, writing, and comprehension skills while also learning about the world around them. Students explore a variety of rich texts, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and plays, that connect to history, science, and culture. Through this program, they will practice strategies to understand complex texts, expand their vocabulary, and develop critical thinking. The goal is to help students not only become confident, independent readers but also to gain knowledge that supports their overall learning across subjects.
