About NJROTC

What's NJROTC all about?

NJROTC, Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, is a program designed for students to acquire a leap ahead in life. NJROTC brings out superb self-discipline, self-confidence, and leadership skills in our cadets, preparing them for life's struggles . We teach cadets how to lead, work together, and effectively communicate with each other. Individuals who are successful in life, who succeed in whatever path they choose, whether it be business, industry, education, or whatever else, have developed strong skills required to discipline themselves and to lead and motivate others. The NJROTC curriculum and activities are designed to develop the leadership skills of the cadet, no matter what their career path may be. A certain percentage of NJROTC College scholarships are designated for NJROTC cadets to compete for, increasing the chances of obtaining a scholarship. The Naval Science Instructor can nominate three qualified students per year to be considered for admission to the United States Naval Academy. Membership in the NJROTC program does NOT obligate the student for further service with the U.S. Government or the U.S. Armed Forces.

Who can join NJROTC?

To enroll in NJROTC, the student must be in grades 9-12 at Pace High School and must be a United States citizen and/or national or alien lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence. The student must also be physically qualified to participate in the school's Physical Education program. To fully participate in the program a student is required to have a Santa Rosa County Sports Physical on file at Pace High School. You must also comply with the NJROTC personal grooming standards as listed in the Cadet Field Manual.

How much is this going to cost me?

Cadets pay very little out of pocket costs. The U.S. Navy provides all of the materials required for instruction including books, drill rifles, marksmanship team rifles, color guard equipment, and orienteering equipment. Uniforms are also provided by the Navy at no cost to the cadets. There is an annual lab fee of $20 for all cadets (If you have trouble paying this, please contact an instructor here).
