What events shape young adulthood?
Students explore the theme of growing up, something they experience everyday in middle school. Students read novels and short stories with people and characters and their experiences growing up, determining central ideas and themes. Students discover and explore the obstacles and challenges faced on the road to adulthood. Students look at the role of dialogue, characterization, and author’s craft in writing and end the unit with a memoir writing experience that reflects a significant moment from their life.
