Grade 6 ► Unit 3 Wilderness Survival
How does a person’s character and their strengths help them survive in the wilderness?
This unit focuses on survival situations that have happened throughout history and on the extensive amount of literature focused on characters surviving in the wild. Students read a variety of non-fiction and fictional stories related to the topic of the unit. This unit focuses on the character- real or imagined and their ability to overcome mental and physical challenges while enduring extreme survival situations. Students will focus on argumentative writing strategies and write an argumentative essay, citing text examples, in response to the essential question of the unit. The unit will culminate in a final media piece where students convince their peers that the main character of their reading novel is worthy of a spot on the hit show “Survivor.”
