In Geology 1121, you will explore the ever-changing Earth system and the dynamic relationships between the geosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere as well as human impacts on our environment. Topics of study will include rocks and minerals, plate tectonics, earthquakes and volcanoes, mountain building, the water cycle, oceans, surface processes, climate change and natural resources. You will also investigate environmental issues ranging from non-renewable resources to oil spills to global warming.
I expect you to attend all the lectures and labs of this course. Consequently, I will work to deliver the contents of this course in a way that you will find engaging, real world and relevant. You, in turn, will be expected to listen, think, take notes, and ask questions during classes. You will be expected to read all the chapters of the text before they are covered in lecture.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive dual credit for enrollment in GEOL-1121 (1.0 college credit, 1.0 high school science elective credit).
