Please report bullying concerns to school staff. Students and families should know that they are not alone in dealing with bullying; staff is here to support them.
As detailed in the "Friendship Skills" section of this website, we specifically teach positive social skills in many ways during elementary school. Part of that includes identifying behaviors that are rude, mean, and bullying, and identifying and practicing strategies for stopping bullying. We encourage students to 1- talk (ask the person to stop); 2- walk (get away from someone who's being mean; walk towards a friend or adult. Try ignoring, if you can't walk away); 3- tell (an adult who can help you solve the problem).
My favorite adult book on this topic is 8 Keys to End Bullying: Strategies for Parents & Schools by Signe Whitson. I like it so much that I offered a class through St. Mary's University with this book as a text. I recommend it to staff and families. Below are additional helpful resources. Please let me know if you have things to recommend :)
