Friday, March 14th
We will see everyone on Friday, March 14th at 2:30 pm in front of room 2. Please eat lunch and/or bring a sandwich in your backpack. If you are bringing a water bottle or Yeti style water container, please make sure it is empty.
Dietary restrictions:
Please let us know through email if you have a student that is Vegan, Vegetarian, Pescatarian, Gluten Free or allergies to specific foods.
Packing:
Please contact the tour company if you have not done so already if you will be checking a bag. The cost for roundtrip is $80.00. If you are bringing just a "Carry-on" and backpack, there is no additional charge. Please remember that you cannot have liquid items more than 3.4 ounces.
We will be going through numerous metal detectors, so "fanny packs" or "cross bags" are not a necessary item to bring on the trip. In fact, the airlines allow only 2 "bags" to be brought on the trip, a carry-on and personal bag, like a back pack. If students plan on bringing a 3rd bag, please let them know that they might have to pack it into their carry-on.
How to dress:
There will be no need to bring formal wear, please pack comfortable clothing, kind of like a very cold day at school. It is best to bring layers. We recommend a hoodie sweatshirt that goes under our jackets. We also recommend a beanie.
We recommend that students bring a portable charger and have their names on their charging boxes or devices.
Weather:
Here are the projections for our weather: Please know that the degrees below are the highs for the day which means it will be cold. We only have New York projected for rain, we will be on a boat to Liberty Island and walking up Wall Street and in Times Square. Please note that this might change. It is recommended that students bring a travel umbrella in their backpack.
Friday: Los Angeles: 55 degrees : 0% rain
Saturday: Boston: 59 degrees: 0% rain
Sunday: New York: 58 degrees: 50% chance of rain
Monday: Philadelphia / Gettysburg: 42 degrees: 0% rain
Tuesday: Gettysburg: 53 degrees: 0% rain
Wednesday: 67 degrees: 22% chance of rain
Thursday: DC: 69 degrees: 24% chance of rain
Friday: DC: 58 degrees: 24% chance of rain
Tribes in New York:
As we spoke about in our last meeting we will be separating into smaller groups in New York City, just for Times Square. Please see this link for our current "Tribes list".

2023 DC information:
Luggage Info: From Slotsy Tours
As Mr. and Mrs. Montoya discussed at last night's meeting, luggage is no longer included with group reservations with American Airlines. While we encourage students to pack in a carryon and personal item (backpack) for the trip, students and chaperones will still be able to bring a checked bag if necessary. American Airlines has requested that checked bags be paid in advance. Prepaying all checked bags in advance will allow the group to streamline the check in process at both Orange County and Reagan.
The checked luggage fee for American Airlines is $35 each way, for a total of $70. If you will need to check a bag, please let us know and make the $70 by Wednesday, March 15. The luggage payment can be made at www.slotsytours.net/makeapayment . The airlines will not accept payment at the airport.
If your student will be bringing a carryon bag and backpack only, there are no further steps you will need to take.
Thanks,
Jon Schlotthauer

Frequently asked questions:
If a student gets Covid on the trip and has to be isolated, who will cover the cost of the hotels for the isolation period?
The tour company (Slotsy Tours) will cover the costs of the hotel for the isolation period.
Will we be testing kids for covid while traveling if they develop a runny nose or aren’t feeling well?
We will have tests on hand if a student is showing symptoms of COVID. We will be encouraging students to be tested before the trip and advising them to take necessary precautions to limit exposure.
How do we sign up and when?
Please go to the SlotsyTours.net website and place a $250.00 deposit. This will secure your spot on the trip. We will be taking the first 80 students who sign up and the 1st 7 adults. Along with the student travelers, Mr. & Mrs. Montoya and 2-3 other teachers will be chaparoning our trip.
What is the price of the 2022 trip?
The price for the trip will be $2800 for students and $3050 for adults. The reason the adult price is higher is due to being double occupancy. Students stay 4 to a room and adults stay 2 to a room. If you would like your own adult room, please contact Slotsy Tours for that information.
What is included in the price of the trip?
All admissions, hotel room, airfare, transportation from school to airport and back to school, breakfast, dinner and all gratuities. Students pay for their own lunches, snacks and souvineers. Also included is a panoramic picture of the trip and a personalized jacket for the trip.
What is the Booster Club and how does it work?
Basically the Booster Club helps make decisions for the trip, in years past, the DC Booster Club planned our Funriasers and ran our meetings. We usually meet once a month.
The Booster Club consists of members and an Executive Board
President - runs the meetings - sets the agenda
Vice President - takes over if the President can not make the meeting
Treasurer - takes care of monies earned from fundraising
Note Taker - takes minutes from Booster Meetings
When will the trip take place?
We plan on going over our Spring Break, Friday, March 18th to Friday March 25th. Our plane will depart on the evening of March 18th from LV and go to LAX on a motorcoach.
Is our deposit refundable?
The airlines have changed their ticket purchasing rules and they are not accepting deposits. The tour company has to pay for the tickets up front, thus, your $250.00 deposit is refundable until October 15th, 2021. If you have special circumstances, please contact Slotsy Tours for information (714) 870-8641
What if a student does not have a smartphone for the “Remind” app?
This is just one of the ways we communicate with students. If a student does not have a smartphone or the “Remind” app it is fine.
What are the contingency plans if covid is still high risk for unvaccinated or vaccinated students?
While Covid-19 will probably still be a concern and precaution, we still feel that a quality trip is possible. We were able to operate a safe, fun, and healthy trip in May of 2020 and we will be taking the same precautions and adjust our trip accordingly as we did then. Slotsy Tours has a trip 3 weeks before ours, which will be an indication of how or if our trip will be adjusted.
What happens if a kid or adult gets sick before the trip?
While we do follow the CDC guidelines with quarantine timelines and guidance. There are trip insurance options available. Some of the trip insurance companies that we know of are TravelGuard and Allianz Travel Insurance. We do not endorse any insurance companies and ask you to look into these options.
What happens if a kid or adult gets sick during the trip?
During the trip, if a student or adult gets sick during the trip, we try to isolate the traveler as soon as possible. We have medical information while on the trip if we need it. In all accounts in the past, including our 2020 trip, we keep in close contact with parents if sickness or health issues arrive.
What documentation is required for students to travel without a parent?
Students do not need a passport or California issued ID. We would like students to bring their School issued ID. In years past, if students lost their ID or their boarding pass, Mrs. Montoya or I vouch for them. We have never had a problem with this.
Do students need to have proof of vaccination or proof of negative PCR, letter of clearance from a parent/legal guardian?
At this point, students do not need to have proof of vaccination or proof of a negative PCR. Students and Adults do not need to be vaccinated, but we recommend that students and adults are vaccinated if the vaccination is available to them.
