Instrument Rental Information

Why Rent?

1. Many rental companies deliver directly to North Main! If you outgrow your instrument, you can have the next size delivered right to our school.

2. If anything happens to your instrument, the rental company will repair it or exchange it quickly and easily.

3. Your monthly rental fee at many companies builds equity and goes toward the eventual "earning" of a full size instrument!

Why can't I buy a cheap or colored instrument?

In short, you get what you pay for. Good, quality string instruments are expensive, even at the beginning level. Typically, violins and violas selling for less than $100 and cellos under $300 are toys. (Let's not even mention string basses!) These instruments don't sound correct because spray paint is used instead of a special varnish and the instrument can't breathe. In addition, the pegs don't move or move way too much so it is impossible to tune the instrument, the bow doesn't tighten or loosen properly, the fine tuners don't move, the bridge isn't cut properly, the sound post isn't set correctly, etc. I could go on and on. A poor quality instrument doesn't set your child up for success, even though the instrument might look pretty cool and you have good intentions. Also keep in mind that your child's instrument size increases as your child grows. Some kids will be on the next size after only a few months of playing!

If you feel that purchasing is still the way to go for your family, please contact me. I can help guide you through the process and make sure that you aren't wasting your money.

What size instrument to order?

Your child received a letter containing rental information in June that included the size of instrument they need. Students were measured during instrument try-outs. If you are unsure of what size instrument to order, please contact me. It is important for students to have the correct size instrument so that they can perform comfortably.
